Our project brings to life the rare handwritten book "Luz de Navegantes," a maritime treasure penned in 1592 by Baltasar Vellerino de Villalobos—a Sevillian priest with an insatiable appetite for exploring new places.
Imagine holding a 400-year-old trove of nautical knowledge—that's exactly what our digital project offers! We've transformed Vellerino's manuscript into a journey through the early modern Atlantic world, unveiling routes and locations so sensitive that even the Spanish crown sought to keep them under wraps. This secrecy is why it wasn't printed or published.
As you navigate our digital seas, you'll discover over 200 vivid descriptions of Atlantic locations, each offering a window into a long-lost world. Marvel at around 107 stunning chorographic plates that provide detailed glimpses of more than 140 landmarks—including ports, islands, and natural features—dotting the early modern seascape. This virtual tour spans continents, whisking you from the Old World ports of Portugal and Andalusia to the rugged coasts of Africa, then across to the sun-drenched Caribbean and onward to New Spain. From there, we'll sail through the lush shores of South America and the remote outposts of Bermuda and the Azores.
¡Embárcate en un viaje extraordinario por el Atlántico del siglo XVI a bordo de nuestro navío digital! Nuestro proyecto da vida a "Luz de Navegantes", un raro tesoro marítimo manuscrito e inédito. Esta obra, escrita hacia 1592 por Baltasar Vellerino de Villalobos —un sacerdote sevillano con una insaciable curiosidad por los lugares—, cobra nueva vida en nuestra plataforma.
¡Imagina tener en tus manos un tesoro de conocimiento náutico de 400 años de antigüedad! Eso es exactamente lo que ofrece nuestro proyecto digital. Hemos transformado el manuscrito de Vellerino en un viaje a través del mundo atlántico de la temprana modernidad, revelando rutas y ubicaciones tan sensibles que incluso la corona española intentó mantenerlas como arcanos imperiales. Este secretismo es la razón por la cual no fue impreso ni publicado.
Al navegar por nuestros mares digitales, descubrirás más de 200 descripciones vívidas de ubicaciones atlánticas, cada una ofreciendo una ventana a un mundo perdido.
